Calum Welch is a trial attorney specializing in traffic and criminal defense. Calum is passionate about protecting the rights of the accused and has defended against charges including driving on a suspended license, DUI/DWI, drug possession and distribution, larceny, assault and battery, and weapon offenses.
Calum attended Old Dominion University, where he received a Bachelor’s in Political Science and Philosophy and a Master’s in Humanities. Calum then attended law school at the College of William & Mary, where he concentrated in criminal law. Before attending law school, Calum worked as a legal assistant in Norfolk, focusing on commercial real estate and corporate securities and finance. While in law school, Calum interned with Public Defender offices throughout the Hampton Roads area, attending hearings and presenting cases in all types of criminal cases. Prior to joining the Weiland Firm, Calum also worked in family law, handling matters involving mental health and criminal charges related to domestic disputes. This experience across practice areas gives Calum a broad understanding of the legal system, which he uses to develop creative, holistic solutions to any number of complex traffic and criminal cases.
Outside of work, Calum enjoys frequenting the many attractions and local businesses throughout the Commonwealth and supporting the Washington Football Team during each of their rare victories.
Calum defends individuals charged with any criminal offense or traffic infraction including: speeding, failure to obey a highway sign, reckless driving, DUI / DWI, hit and run, eluding a police officer, driving on a suspended license, underage possession of alcohol and drug possession.
